Ignoring the scanner variable, I think for the most part, you'll get more detail out of digital (in 35mm). Especially if you aren't using slow speed film on a tripod.

 

It gets more complicated, especially when you start mixing in traditional B&W film, optical printing, grain, print sizes, viewing distances, etc. But if you want a simple answer to, "Which will give me more detail in a large print or at 100% on the screen?" I think digital is the answer you'll get.

no this will not answer your original question. You need to focus bracket to compare sharpness, which takes the two rangefinders out of the equation.
