VisibleDust comes thru

I noticed a couple of UFOs in a blue sky shot so I proceeded to do what I've done hundreds of times before (with other digicams), I pumped a few blasts of air with my 'Hurricane' blower. It didn't do the trick so I did something I never did - I took a Q-tip and attempted to gently swipe the specks off the sensor. Yes, stupid is as stupid does. It was wet dust and gave my sensor a couple of nice streaks and nearly giving me a coronary. So I rushed down to my favorite Leica dealer in Kowloon who sold me some VDust swabs and a bottle of Sensor Clean. The 12 swabs and teeny tiny bottle of liquid came out to US$70, but I had to bite the bullet and the sales guy cleaned out the gunk for me at no extra charge. Went to take some shots at f/16 and all UFOs are gone; sensor is sparkling again.

I didn't have time to comparison shop for a cheaper alternative, but I have to give them a plug and say I'm very impressed and relieved by the results...overpriced as it is.

Hi Paul, which one is your favourite Leica Shop? I usually go to the one on HK-Island near the mid-level escalator...

They are all covered by Schmidt-Marketing I suppose?

Hi, I've been to the shops on Stanley St, but they usually have zilch. Instead, I go to Tin Cheung Camera on Carnavon Rd. in TST. I find their prices are lower than Wing Shing and the others in MKK. Plus, they have a large good selection of Leica gear and accessories covered by Schmidt.

I used all kinds of sensor cleaning systems including one that has a built in vacuum tip. I just couldn't see spending all that much money for Visible Dust's whirling bristles. Well, I finally gave up on the other systems and bought the Visible Dust thingy. I still think it is grossly overpriced, but it works extremely well. I have been using it for over two years and I wouldn't think of using anything else. Good product!:)
