arthury Posted May 8, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 8, 2010 I had this issue twice on my M8 and both times I sent it in. They replaced the entire LCD. Based on this experience, I am thinking the LCD is not dust-proof.
sfokevin Posted May 9, 2010 Share #4 Posted May 9, 2010 I found there're 5~6 black dots inside of the LCD screen. Any one have the same problem? Thank you ------ Kevin Can you confirm that the "black dots" are dust particles and not dead pixels? If it is dusk - It would be a problem that seems to be prevalent... BKK dan Posted May 9, 2010 Share #5 Posted May 9, 2010 You M8 and M9 owners are not implying that this not cheap camera is not equipped with a proper sealing around the space between LCD and cover?!?! No, please don't say dust particles don't matter and dust particles inside the camera have nothing to do with photography. A cheap LCD cover instead of sapphire glass, yes, for some it just doesn't matter. For some it does. For this price. My cheap P&Ss have no dust specs. But I wouldn't be surprised if all the manual craftsmanship at Leica takes no precautions in assembling this part of the camera in an absolutely dust-free environment. Do you think this predicts the fact of dead pixel?
brill64 Posted May 9, 2010 Share #7 Posted May 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) try shining a small, bright torch at an oblique angle to the monitor and you will see if you have dust or not. there is some in mine but it hasn't bothered me so far..i had dust and a noticeable coffee ring stain inside the monitor of my m8.2 and leica replaced it under warranty with new parts. maybe your local leica technicians can replace it if it's a bother to you but call and ask if they have the spare parts before dropping your camera in. they may have to order from germany in which case you can add a couple of months to your waiting time. my m8 came back within a week
viramati Posted May 9, 2010 Share #8 Posted May 9, 2010 It was me who had the problem, but it was caused by SOLMS themselves and has had to be sent back.
jjjjuin Posted May 10, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted May 10, 2010 Thank you brill64 and David. I may consider send it back to leica.
