All leave cancelled until Photokina we discussed this at a gathering of long term Leica enthusiasts last weekend. We all agreed that a new viso- whatever was one of the daftest ideas we had heard for a long time And who has suggested the "need" for rising front lenses for Ms? More madness. bill Posted May 9, 2010 Share #202 Posted May 9, 2010 Hands up all those who were at the well-publicised get together in the South of France... ...anybody... ...anybody at all...? Regards, Bill
Guest BigSplash Posted May 9, 2010 Share #203 Posted May 9, 2010 Andy please re read what I wrote as I think you have not understood anything. Amazing I hope that the top brass at Leica read this. Gosh I fully agree, and am addressing. All leave cancelled until Photokina Who said that? we discussed this at a gathering of long term Leica enthusiasts last weekend. Yes...and? We all agreed that a new viso- whatever was one of the daftest ideas we had heard for a long time..NO, there was buy in for the idea. And who has suggested the "need" for rising front lenses for Ms? More madness.I am not sure what yiu are referring to...please explain
Sorry but this is exactly the hysterical reply that does not address specifics. You do not give any specifics here and nor elsewhere. We could not relate to real issues from the naysayers and I felt very encouraged that some members of this forum are not in line with the continuous critique, smileys and no concrete input about what they as users want to see for Leica going forward. I am not going to get personal and identify names but I can also say that a few members of what I call the "usual suspects" have a following, that sees them as jokers and this echoes my own thoughts. I am so encouraged by the camaradie and knowledge from like minded Leica people that I shall be hosting a BBQ event at my villa in S.France on Saturday 10th July. All are invited (with partners) from the forum ...the only request is that anyone who wishes to come lets me know by 1st July and earlier if possible. If people need help in finding local accomodation I can help, but please let me know asap. I plan to take my yacht out on (French National day) 14th July for the fireworks display with music (Cannes) and if people plan to be still in the area during that time then they are welcome to join us . I wish to limit the number to 25 people which is the legal limit on board for an event of this type so please let me know on a first come first served basis. stunsworth Posted May 9, 2010 Share #204 Posted May 9, 2010 We all agreed that a new viso- whatever was one of the daftest ideas we had heard for a long time..NO, there was buy in for the idea. Frank, please pay more attention to detail and read what Andy wrote. He's talking about the get together in Cheshire, not your soiree in the South of France. andybarton Posted May 9, 2010 Share #205 Posted May 9, 2010 I said it that all leave was cancelled until Photokina so that Leica could work on your idea. It was a joke. Obviously. We discussed this in England last week and everyone said it was a stupid idea. That's why I wrote it down above. Did you get a lot of forum members at your gathering this weekend? Edit: Steve - you're wasting your time. Frank reads what he wants to read in every thread and into every conversation he has with people, by the sounds of it. I'd love to know what all these "bogies" he has slain in this conversation over the weekend are, and where they came from. He mentioned a rising front lens, then denies all knowledge in the post to me above. He claims that a pro uses an 18 - 200 zoom, then moans about the fact that the 20 end gives the lens an aperture of f5.6, then the pro moans about using a high ISOP to compensate. Everyone knows that the high end Nikon ISOs are industry leaders at the moment. I have no idea what he's actually trying to say here, but apparently, that's another "bogey slain". There was universal support amongst the gathering ( how many people, experience, age, etc etc, we don't know) for this Viso thing. People on this forum do not see the need for such a device for two reasons 1) THERE IS NO NEED FOR SUCH A DEVICE and 2) IT WOULD DIVERT FUNDS FROM SENSIBLE R&D AND LIKELY BANKRUPT THE COMPANY. Apart from that we think it's a great idea, if Leica want to sell about four of the things. Finally, everyone agrees that Leica have some CS issues to deal with. Hold the front page... Guest BigSplash Posted May 9, 2010 Share #206 Posted May 9, 2010 Bill: Hands up all those who were at the well-publicised get together in the South of France.. Bill you are right this was not well publicised and indeed many people did not make it due to illness, volcano dust, and business demands. I have separately now offered my villa as a place to meet for a BBQ on 10 July and despite our differences in the past you are warmly invited. That said it seems that you and some others have a certain reputation which is not good, beyond my own thoughts. Maybe you should make the effort, and maybe correct any misconceptions by joining us and indeed bringing copies of the BLURB book that you kicked off.....I know also that you are the founder of the one film club and I am open to that for 10 July as an opportunity to take photos in our garden, or in the vicinity of Opio if you wish to manage that. My objective is to create a warm BBQ with people who enjoy Leica etc. and talk. My wife accompanied me yesterday and she enjoyed the event also so partners are very welcome. If there is strong interest then I shall invite some pro (photographers!) to attend and open to any other suggestions for an interesting weekend in the South of France.. thru to 14th July on the boat. I hope that there is interest ...please send to me private mail if you wish to attend. Thanks

bill Posted May 9, 2010 Share #210 Posted May 9, 2010 Frank, I'm touched. Really I am. I have happy memories of the months I spent in the South of France, in La Lavandou. When I return I shall visit friends. Now, sad to say, I already have plans. I shall be enjoying myself in Santorini while you and your imaginary friends are having tea. For the record, I don't do garden photography, and the One Challenge is already organised this year for Venice - so sorry to disappoint. Feel free to join us there. And I shall look forward to your ordering said copies of the Book; that's most generous of you. How many should I put you down for?
hoppyman Posted May 9, 2010 Share #211 Posted May 9, 2010 Frank, as far as I can tell yours is the only voice in this forum discussion that thinks your ideas on this concept are practical. You've posted on this 40 or 50 times in this thread alone and I don't believe that anyone's opinion has been changed (yours nor those of the other thread participants). Your last post introduces a number of new criticisms of Leica Camera but then you've said that you take no position on them (although of course you have). This trainwreck of a thread is probably not the best place for all of those topics removed from your original subject. I don't think that anything is being achieved except rising frustration levels and that terrible morbid attraction where people can't look away. Have fun with your gathering and take photos. Posting some is an excellent way to illustrate points that you wish to make as well.
pgk Posted May 10, 2010 Share #212 Posted May 10, 2010 Does anyone else see this as a 'slow-motion car crash thread' where you know you should look away and never turn back but for some unfathomable reason you just can't and you keep on looking and looking? Pete. And the car just keeps on rolling.....and rolling.....and rolling.....and... I think that this thread has reached the equivalent stage of the car wreck slowly disintegrating. Its so exciting watching the paint peel off it:). To quote a well known TV program "There a whole [psychology] PHd there....". Enough. Surely...... Fotobug Posted November 30, 2011 Share #213 Posted November 30, 2011 OK well I have a basic prototype, now I just need to integrate the EVF, new intra Viso metering and autofocus into the forward module, come up with a new lens range including a zoom and persuade Leica Camera to provide an interface integration on the M10. That and shifting the decimal point a couple of places on the first price estimates. I suppose this rig could give my subject something to look at while I calculate depth-of-field figures. I'd definetely rent one of these... go 'shooting downtown, then share the day's stories with friends over dinner. Priceless.
