ckli Posted May 1, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 1, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, On the Weincell Package Instruction, it says: " Up to 10-year shelf life; the WeinCell is not activated until the pull-tab is removed (removing batteries from equipment and replacing tabs prolongs battery life)."] My question is after opening the package, I couldn't find this 'Pull-Tab' thing on the battery, where is it? Or am I missng something? Thanks in advance. CK

doubice Posted May 1, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 1, 2010 Hi,..........I couldn't find this 'Pull-Tab' thing on the battery, where is it? Or am I missng something? Thanks in advance. CK Yes, you are.. You're missing an ' i '..... The 'plus' side of the battery has two tiny breather holes, which are covered by the 'pull-tab'. This has to be removed, to activate the battery. If you can see those breather holes, the battery has already been activated - check its voltage, it should be 1.4V. Once activated, the battery will last only about 6 months (my experience, yours and others may vary). By covering the holes, the chemical process which provides the battery's power is slowed down, thus extending the life of the battery (a rather simple explanation...). ckli Posted May 2, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted May 2, 2010 Thanks for the quick repsonse. However, there was nothing to cover the two tiny holes near the + sign even the battery was just removed from the sealed packing. Put it in my SL body and got no reponse. Took your advise and the voltmeter reading was only 0.58 Volt. My current battery which is a PX526A has a reading of 1.48 Volts. Guess I simply got a bad one this time.. and have to stick with the current battery until I find a new one.
NZDavid Posted May 3, 2010 Share #4 Posted May 3, 2010 That's a shame. You could try asking VintageBatteries.com WeinCell PX625 Replacement Specialist for more info.
jank Posted May 3, 2010 Share #5 Posted May 3, 2010 CK , the battery may not have a "tab", it may be a small, round, very thin clear plastic self adhesive sticker thru which you can clearly see breather holes. Easy to miss at first look.Check it over. Jan
ckli Posted May 3, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted May 3, 2010 Hi Jan, I've double checked and there was really nothing to cover these tiny holes. In any event, Thanks for the help and advise from all of you.
