Just opened package from ffordes (delivered bank holiday within 18 hours of order: brilliant service!) containing silver 35 Summicron. The extra weight feels extremely satisfying on the M9 versus the black option. First images are bitingly sharp; decent bokeh at f2; and fine colour rendition.

Incidentally: C1 v5 gave a greenish cast to sky whereas LR 3beta was entirely accurate.

I recently sold a refurbished v4 Summicron, the 'bokeh king', and I feel the ASPH is better in every way, not excluding ergonomics – notably with respect to aperture ring proximity to lens hood. I had affection for an old 35 3.5 Summaron which I should not have sold, but my quest for the prefect 35 seems to be over. For the present:eek:. (Had no regrets over disposing of ZM 35 f2.)

The curious thing is that I had tried two black ’crons on my M8 and used to find the rendering unduly harsh. And they were quite flare prone.

Am I reading this correctly? The silver cron ASPH is superior to the black?

Well I am just saying the heavier lens fits extremely comfortably, in my opinion, on the M9. My companion lens is the 50mm Summillux ASPH. I may have found an exceptional example with the new silver and as I noted, it was curious that I hadn't like the rendering on my earlier M8.

I suspect there are two factors at work here. First, you are seeing the lens in all its uncropped glory. Second, you might be getting a bit closer to the subject to compensate for the greater angle of view offered by the full frame M9 and consequently getting a more blurred background than you are used to when using the same lens on the M8.

By the way, I agree with you that the heavier 35/F2 ASPH (I have the black paint version) does balance very nicely on the M9.
