miami91 Posted May 6, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 6, 2010 David, Have you handled or tested this new camera? I respect your opinion, so would be quite interested in knowing what you think. To say this thing looks unimpressive is a bit of an understatement. Nice zoom for sure, but slow lens, too many megapixels crammed into a small sensor, typical Panasonic heavy-handed suppression of noise on sample images I've seen (and resulting "smudged" images), etc. I'm about as loyal to the red dot as anyone, and ordinarily buy the latest Leica compact digicam offerings, but this one sure looks like a lemon, unless one plans on never shooting over ISO 100. Regards, Jeff.
steve70 Posted May 7, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 7, 2010 I Just purchased the new V-Lux 20, have had it for a week or so, and I think that it is a greast camera. I am comparing it with a D-Lux 4, as I have one of those as well. Indeed the camera does not look impressive, visually speaking, but functionally it is fantastic! The Optical zoom is great and the macro function is about the best I have seen in a compact camera. I am actually giving the D-Lux 4 to the wife and will now use the V-Lux 20 mostly. It now sits comfortably in my interior jacket pocket. The only thing that I miss somewhat is that it does not have a RAW function. My suggetion would be to look at one in person, play with it and I am sure that you will fall in love with it as well. By the way, I also have an M9 with a slew of lenses, but to be honest I find the D-Lux 4 and the V-Lux 20 much more fun and easy to use, with the added benifit of not having to worry about someone trying to steal it, or accidentally leaving it somewhere.
