Whenever one of my M7s appears to have a DX coding issue I've found that if I turn the camera off and nudge the ISO dial then turn the camera back on the problem disappears. I have no idea why that works, and I agree that it shouldn't be happening on a camera like this. But that seems to be an easy fix.

I spoke with customer service (CS) in Solms, and I am now getting optical DX coding. :)

This will mean that I can remove the film in very cold environments with some ease!

The parts should be in stock next week, and I hope this information helps if you have problems with the mechanical ones.

So, William, if you don't mind telling...what's the cost of the switch to the optical sensor?

Thanks,

Clyde

I am sorry Clyde, I don't know. It hasn't been done yest and no invoice.

Cheers, William

I had a message from Solms today saying, that it is not possible to disconnect the Dx coding device in the M7. Also, no promise of an optical Dx reader for my M7 now in Solms. Back to the Scotch Tape solution with my second M7 body on hand.

My M7 has the same problem.

The IR solution must consume some power. Does it significantly affect the battery life?

No it doesn't. Until to date a found no difference in power consumption on the IR solution.
