cmdrfire Posted April 26, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, My father picked up an M9 on a recent trip to Tokyo. I was playing with it a bit and noticed that a dead pixel was present in the .jpg outputs of the camera. Here is the full image if someone wants to see: http://www.cmdr-fire.co.uk/images/m9tests/L1000053.JPG That one cropped, you see very clearly a red pixel. When I import the RAW (compressed DNG) into Photoshop CS4, however, no such pixel is visible. Here is a jpeg output from photoshop; no processing other than the RAW import and conversion to jpeg. I also had a look at some of the photos my dad took in Tokyo when he first got the camera. This pixel is also present there. Full image: http://www.cmdr-fire.co.uk/images/m9tests/L1000004.JPG Crop of area of interest: Any thoughts? I'm fairly certain it's a dead pixel on the sensor; only the lack of it in the RAW is confusing me, and I've got a feeling that CS4 might be doing something I'm unaware of. The fault is consistent, always in the same place, and repeatable with various camera processing settings and ISO levels, etc. N.
Advertisement Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Hi cmdrfire, Take a look here M9 - dead pixel?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Alnitak Posted April 26, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 26, 2010 Adobe's ACR engine will map out hot or dead pixels, exactly as it has done here. You will need to send it to Leica to have them map it out for you if you want it gone for jpeg shooting. Jeff
