Happy with the S2!

I couldn't resist this. Just passing time with a glass of wine (so much better than expresso) in the evening sun ... the 70mm lense is simply stunning. No significant PP, the colours really were like this.

I'm not sure how to handle files like this for the web though, the down-rezzing is almost criminal!

EDIT: 100% crop added

ed,

the bokeh seems a little nervous but it could be a jpg artifact. what is it like on the RAW?

Hi Peter

The raw is very much better. That was much I meant by the down-rezzing. Trying to get an 80 Mb DNG to a 290 kb JPG is quite a challenge. Actually, this was not the best of the set in retrospect ... I was in really close and had to close right down to get the depth of field. But the hairs on the anemone pulsatilla are mind blowing.

Cheers

Congratulations on the S2. Your website is first rate and you certainly have some great images . Just beautiful use of light in all your selects. You certainly have the skill to justify an S2 and we look forward to see some of your S2 work...be sure to post .

I didn t recognize your work until I saw the image taken in Rome with the Gold Purse then I remembered we had met at David Turnley s workshop.

Incredible, not that I am convinced that I need this level of resolution but still it is a pretty conclusive demonstration of what the S2 optics is about. So maybe the claim that the S2 lenses are "the best yet" is not too far off the mark.

Yes that is truly unbelievably good. Was this handheld?

No, not handheld, but just using my lightest weight travel tripod (Gitzo 1541 T with ball head). There was a tiny bit of wind, which is actually the limiting factor in the sharpness as far as I can see. For close up work the S2 really needs a steady support - the typical macro problem of an extremely shallow depth of field becomes a real issue. Moving a few millimeters really shift the focal plane.

Look at David Farkas' comments in the next thread. This was processed in C1 and there are some funny colour effects. I think David answered your points there.

For info the details are: 1/13 sec, f 19, ISO 160, no fill flash

Thank you Roger,

Good to hear from you again and to see you back on this forum. I read many of your comments on the GetDPI forum and am happy to learn from your various insights on the Leica lenses. I am looking forward to travelling and using the S2. Would have loved to have it last year in Bhutan.

Take care,

Arif
