No flash socket on M8 /M9 - is it a problem?

Frank, the TT5 and TT1 are the latest Pocket Wizard devices. These sit flat in the hot-shoe, provide another hot-shoe on their top, and will work in manual mode with the digi-M's.

I have avoided the other forms of PW because of the form factor. They sit high up on the camera and draw attention to themselves.

I almost bot a Microsync device because they are *really* small, but I try to buy vanilla so the new, smaller PW's suit me.

The TT5 is only a little over $200 and talks to all other PW devices. These things can be either a transmitter or a receiver.

I believe they are in my future.

... My planned set up is to use existing studio lights and connect one ....the other two actually have built in sensors for slave mode...

Frank, I've done the same before this. Next time I don't want the tether from the camera to the main light, hence a wireless device like the TT5.

Bill, the TT1 is so much better balanced on the M9 :) and it works just as well if not better than the TT5.

You set it to manual and it works really well--and it's also compatible with all the PW stuff.

It will take a flash passed through it if you need it.

The only reason you'd want a TT5 is if you want to use it as a receiver, or to use a wire to control other slaves (other than one on top of the camera).

BTW--neither of them have the absolute range of the Plus Transceivers / Transmitters. I'm not sure why, since I'm not using Canon flashes in TTL mode (which evidently produce a large amount of RFI).
