New cinema lenses - opinions?

I say, "Go for it!" Small sector which demands highest standards and is ready to pay highest prices.

What I don't know is whether these lenses actually come from the gnomes of Solms. Could be from another division of the company, could be Leica designs manufactured by someone else entirely.

I'd like to know more about where they fit in the company. I haven't seen any press release from Dr Kaufmann's company in regard to them, or in Hessian business news.

... they seem to be manufactured by CW-Sonderoptik (Home - CW Sonderoptic) which apparently is a subdivision of Leica.

They're not. It's a different company under Herr Kaufmann....

Bill, I'm lost. Are you saying that el. is incorrect and that the cine lenses are made by Leica Camera AG?

ELCAN (= Leica Canada) has always been in the business for cinema lenses (Panavision)....

I didn't realize Leitz Midland was the source of Panavision lenses. ("Das also war des Pudels Kern.") :)

Thanks for the info.

Am I right that what was Elcan is now part of Raytheon, so is no longer part of the Leica family?

That would make it reasonable that Leica would want to re-enter the business under its own name.

What I find somewhat daunting is that these are all supposed to be T1.4 lenses ranging from 16-100mm. With the T scale you factor in reflection losses as well so they would be in the f/1.3 ball park in photography lens terms (I am assuming 90% transmission or so)

100 mm f/1.3 ......... eek!
