Advertisement Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Hi cstlwtr, Take a look here Help; SD/SDHC cards and high speed Card Reader?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ed_K Posted April 10, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 10, 2010 hi Wayne, welcome to the forum, Sandisk does make a firewire card reader but it is for CF card only, not the SD that the M9 uses, unfortunately. Plus here's an extract from the pdf file of Improvements in the M9 firmware 1.116 showing some recommended cards. It is a good starting point but if you do a search on the M9 sub-forum, you will find the "milage" varies with different users.
RoySmith Posted April 11, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 11, 2010 Hello All, For the M9 I am looking for recommendations on SD/SDHC memory cards and a high speed card reader I should look at? Hi Wayne, I'm new to the forum as well. I also had the desire for a fast card reader so I did some research. You have 5 options: 1) USB 2.0 connection There are many choices for these. One that I've seen rated highly in a few places is Lexar Professional UDMA Dual Slot USB 2) Firewire 800 connection (requires a computer with a firewire card/port - even Firewire 400 is faster than USB 2.0). Unfortunately no one makes a Firewire SDHC Reader. However you can use a Firewire CF reader with an SDHC-CF adapter. As I had a high speed Firewire CF Reader I got a Jobo SD/SDHC to CF Type II Adapter. You can read my assessment of it here. It has the potential to be quite fast - if you have a fast SDHC card. Delkin also makes a SD to CF adapter. 3) PC Card or ExpressCard Readers in appropriate slots in your computer. Delkin makes some good ones. 4) Some computers have an internal SD card slot - and these are rated very fast . On the iMac they read at speeds up to 240 MB/sec. 5) eSATA connection (requires a computer with a eSATA port) There is only one choice I know of, the Pocket eSATA/USB Digidrive. I have not used one but the connection should be fast. Your options will be limited by what connections your computer has available, and you need fast cards to see the benefit of a fast reader. Rob Galbraith a very thorough review here. Cheers, Roy
