George Bennett Posted April 3, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) As a new user (from a long line of Nikons) I love my new camera and lenses. The picture quality in terms of sharpness and color are astounding. I'm a new lifetime convert. I do have a question however; the metadata does not show the aperture setting. All other data appears to be correct. This lack of info occurs regardless of mode (I've tried both auto and manual.) and lens. I have a 28mm 2.8, 35mm 2.0, 50mm 2.0, and 90mm 2.8. All lenses are 6 bit coded. I've tried Auto lens setting and manual lens setting with the coding masked on the lenses. I am using the latest software. I haven't found a thread regarding this issue. Can anyone suggest whether it is a software malfunction and if so where? I have tried downloading to Lightroom and to Adobe Bridge with no success. sakthorp Posted April 3, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 3, 2010 Hi George, Lightroom should be estimating the f/stop of your coded lenses. There have been a few threads from people who were curious as to why Lightroom reported close yet inaccurate f/stop data. If you are indeed using coded lenses, it is curious that Lightroom isn't attempting to provide f/stop data. BTW: Like you, I'm new to Leica and find it a great tool and great fun to use! My DSLR equipment will only be used for paid assignments from now on;) As a new user (from a long line of Nikons) I love my new camera and lenses. ho_co Posted April 4, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 4, 2010 Some current threads on the topic: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/121180-m9-minor-issue.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/121113-wrong-no-lens-data-exif.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/121178-daft-question-probably.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/121102-wrong-aperture-exif-picture-my-new.html The lens has no facility to tell the camera how it's set. (Remember, the M9 will work with lenses 50+ years old.) But the camera makes an estimate based on comparing the light metered by the metering system with that seen through the blue dot beside the corner of the body casting nearest the shutter speed button (next to the Leica Red Dot), and taking into account the lens type as identified by the lens ID code. The result can only be an approximation. Good that you're so attentive to detail, George! Proves you're one of us! Your results are the same as the rest of us get; nothing wrong with your camera.
