Advertisement Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Hi ChiILX1, Take a look here X1 vs the M9 for low light only. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
phancj Posted October 26, 2010 Share #82 Â Posted October 26, 2010 I guess I need to introduce you all to my Dutch Indo girlfriend. I have zero issues with the mastery of the English language for those who aren't native speakers. It's sad that is, at the end of all of this bs, what came through. Â My issues with her are numerous, my assertion about her bs comments and attitude are linked to her massive misuse of basic things while she states she IS a native speaker. Frankly she's a sour person who needs lessons in manners typically not found in those with money and class. Â I'm tired of this thread, again. I only respond because someone I enjoy hearing from responded and I don't want the misunderstanding I'm some sort of jackass who demands perfect English, I don't. Â Pretty much NOTHING she says lines up without contradiction. Her inability to communicate was just the first red flag. I really am done now, if you have an issue with what I said - PM me, because frankly I'm quite sure 'she' doesn't exist as any sort of real person relative to what 'she' posts. Â Goodnight folks... it's really time to get the nastiness and bs hate speech and well, for all my supposed demands for perfect English, craptasm out of this board. I'm getting really sick of the negativity, I just don't need it - and it's extremely thick here relative to other forums where people are actually polite. It's an absolute shame that a 34 year old has more manners and tact than someone with far advanced years. Â I have had plenty of criticism for Leica - read my previous posts (recent one in the m9 forum), I'm not some Leica apologist.. but a troll is a troll. She got called out and vanished... at least for a while. I'm sure we will all be enlightened with her S2 Morocco images and be wowed at her skill level. Â Edward, Â I only think positive things about you as a person, and fully understand your position and frustration in handling a troll. My remark about linguistics was not aimed at you, just my thoughts at that instant, in between work. Â I thank you for your kind post and clarification, and do hope to converse often in this great forum. Â :DCJ
h00ligan Posted October 26, 2010 Share #83 Â Posted October 26, 2010 How do I get rid of that?- Never mind I think I just figured it out. Try that. Â Adjust the white balance(pre or post, up to you), bump contrast, improve sharpness(how are you sharpening? If you aren't try lab sharpening, or alternately if you are not motivated to create your own method, buy the pk sharpening action). Â Those are the things I see in the image you posted, fwiw. Â Stnami obviously has skill, I just wish (s)he was less destructive and more constructive here. Â I also think the framing is off. The bridge is too centered imo. Â @cj, thanks. I try to be a nice person.. I'm not always successful. Everyone has a breaking point You're going to leave us for the m9, I see it coming.. heh. I would too if I could possibly justify the expense for my limited skill. Maybe by the time the m10 is out.

The bridge is too centered imo.  Thanks... Well it's up now in the contest for what it is and what it isn't. Framing was complex... there was a curb like side to the pond I wanted out of the picture... and I wanted to be close enough to show the fish...  I use Aperture 3.1 for photos. All I do is hit "auto adjust" and it gave me the shot you see. I believe that fits in the guidelines of minimal PP. Since Tsunami's comments I decreased the yellow saturation. See if that's better... h00ligan Posted October 26, 2010 Share #86 Â Posted October 26, 2010 I understand, and certainly I am by absolutely no means anything other than a newcomer to this wonderful hobby of mine. Please don't take any insult or be disheartened, I was only posting some things I would have done differently - and they could well be completely off. All I do is read about this stuff and try to get better, appreciating when other opine. Â I certainly admire your efforts for improvement and feedback, many don't get that far and shrink at the first 'insert negative comment here' Â Where did you post the adjusted? Also why aperture, I ask as I found it extremely cumbersome and limited for auto work compared to lightroom (everyone has a diff opinion on this so I'm trying to understand)? I would too if I could possibly justify the expense for my limited skill. Maybe by the time the m10 is out.  Haha, Edward, thanks!  Do not think I'll be dropping the X1 any time soon even if I end up with an M9. This is because the M9 is way too heavy and bulky and only do MF. I still see myself shooting with the X1 more often, so no, I'll stick with the X1 for a LLLooonnggg while, till maybe till the X2 at least?  Funny thing is, I just started picking up my DSLR again and even with all the good primes I use (including the newest AFS 85mm f1.4G nano coating, blah blah) the sheer convenience , size vs IQ equation puts it ahead in the pack at least for me, and to me in my daily use it would smoke the M9. Of course the M9 has better ULTIMATE IQ but to fiddle with MF everyday and for 100 shots a day no thanks. I do not see myself shooting more than 20 shots with the M9, I'll get 200-300 shots with the X1 daily when traveling, and have fun and less eye-strain doing that. Last trip to sea on a boat I brought BOTH the X1 and my Nikon with primes well the nikon with the 1.4 lenses took shots with marginally better IQ, but the X1 is no slouch and in future trips I think I'll just bring the X1 instead of the DSLR and leave me with more freedom and not have a 3kg weight on my shoulders. The X1 has truly spoilt me.  Come to think of it I may have no real need for an M9, just a nagging want for something I havent tried. My wife says I'll end up with it anyway so might as well buy it outright. She supports my hobby 100% so I'm a lucky guy. But personally I really do need my own lux vs nikkor 1.4s comparison. Thankfully there is 24, 50, 85 1.4 Nikkors and I am pre-ordered for the 35mm 1.4G. I will NOT buy the M9 based on impulse but only after I have exhausted my own "testing" haha...  I'm putting my money where my mouth is in setting up the X1 challenge, so I think that clears up any doubt on my support behind the X1. And I'll continue to hold it ad infinitum if support is forthcoming from X1ers. My only gripe is with the trolls and at some time I think I might leave this forum for a while and be exclusively in the photo forums where people speak with their images, not their a*&e@s haha:p

Thanks.  I posted the adjusted in the contest page and on Flickr.  I use Aperture for several reasons. First, the intuitiveness of Mac programs comes second nature to me where in comparison I've had frustrations with Adobe products' slowness and counter-intuitiveness (to my tastes). Second, Aperture works with my iPhone on a sync, as well as mobile me. I also like the social plugins like Flickr (which light room may have) and I like that all my photographer friends use Aperture so that they can teach me the ropes. I also get Aperture for $79 as a student, which makes upgrades really affordable.

Your image seems good possibly a few pushes of the sliders in LR will do the trick.

harryliem Posted October 31, 2010 Share #92  Posted October 31, 2010 I have an M9 and recently bought and was and still might sell the X1..It's a fine camera but with my other gear I didnt think I needed it right now. But as luck with have it, I am shooting an interesting project that is at night low light and I can't use a flash. The small size of the X1 and it's ability to shoot decently at high ISO would be perfect.  Taking the M9 on this shoot is not ideal also because of the size...smaller the better..  any examples of low light shots and comments appreciated.  Are you comparing the cameras or the money? I don't get it... x1x1x1 there are two different cameras character...

ChiILX1 Posted October 31, 2010 Share #95 Â Posted October 31, 2010 Where? I also consider selling it... Â EBay as a download- I put both the Mac and pc package files on my iDisk and then sent the links and provided codes to the winner.
h00ligan Posted October 31, 2010 Share #96 Â Posted October 31, 2010 Couldn't the winner just dl the trial, then unlock with your serial?
ChiILX1 Posted October 31, 2010 Share #97 Â Posted October 31, 2010 Couldn't the winner just dl the trial, then unlock with your serial? Â Perhaps, which I considered, but somehow selling the software with the serial made me think the bidders would attach more value to what I was selling. You never know who's looking at your auction (it could be someone unfamiliar with trials and someone who would get flustered by the idea, which has happened in similar ways to me in the past)
Lost. Posted October 31, 2010 Share #98 Â Posted October 31, 2010 EBay as a download- I put both the Mac and pc package files on my iDisk and then sent the links and provided codes to the winner. Â Â Â Â Thank you for the great idea! Â My X1 should be at home waiting for me tomorrow, and a new ebay auction for LR will be up tomorrow night. As an Aperture user since the beginning I have a very nice workflow going so I have zero need for LR and wouldn't want to waist HD space on my Mac... Â I look forward to being able to contribute to the Leica forum without so much typing. Â Which Lightroom does it come with? would kind of suck if it comes with an outdated product like LR 2... Guest stnami Posted November 2, 2010 Share #100 Â Posted November 2, 2010 . In relation, iso. The iso performance of mft is not great comparatively. My x1 sucks compared to my gf1...and costs a lot more but it hits lower light a lot better.
