Advertisement Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Hi Irishimage, Take a look here Birds x2 Series. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
leicamann Posted December 20, 2006 Share #2 Posted December 20, 2006 The heron shot is.... unfortunately over exposed..please bracket your exposures and take more than one shot....overexpose..underexpose..and then chose the best of the set. The second is great for I have never seen a crow with mixed blue/grey feathers..where is this taken..must be in Europe somewhere? Thanks for sharing Regards, Leicamann
Peter41951 Posted December 20, 2006 Share #3 Posted December 20, 2006 The grey crow portrait is very well caught. Thanks

Thanks for sharing Regards, Leicamann Hi John, Shot taken in South Dublin (Ireland) they are a common sight around these parts .. i know this ia a member of the Crow family and think it's a "Gray Hooded Crow" but i could be mistaken .. thanks also for your observation with the exposure of the Heron shot.. i had some problrms with that one as they are a very shy bird and very differcult to get up close ..i had to use max zoom facing into strong sunlight and shade so was lucky to get any kind of shot i suppose.. but will heed your advise on exposure in future,,thanks Noel Thanks also Peter.J for your comments Much appreciated Noel
elansprint72 Posted December 20, 2006 Share #5 Posted December 20, 2006 The second is great for I have never seen a crow with mixed blue/grey feathers..where is this taken..must be in Europe somewhere? Never seen one of these Crows in the UK either! Is it unique to Ireland? John's rather "direct" (you'll get used to that) advice is sound, I know the V-Lux is something of a new camera to all of us but I think you can set it to bracket exposures automatically, perhaps 5 shots at a time(?) and just bin the bad exposures, 4gb card means zillions of shot;s can't do that with an M, eh dudes? Given the way that any wildlife shot is difficult, you have done very well to get these. Cheers, Pete.
Irishimage Posted December 21, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted December 21, 2006 Never seen one of these Crows in the UK either! Is it unique to Ireland? Hi Pete Not too sure if they are Pete but think i'll have to check with the local library to find out exactly what species of bird this is.. have been told now it could be a Jackdaw .. As yet i'v not tried out all the many features available with the V-Lux .. have it only 2 weeks now so still learning how to get the best from it.. also just purchased a 2gb card so will give the bracket exposures a try as you suggest next time i'm bird watching .. Thanks for the advice.. Regards Noel
