andalus Posted March 31, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 31, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just got my M9 two days ago. However, it was loaded with the old firmware, although I did update it. Does this mean the camera was manufactured well before the latest firmware update...or what? Anyone out there with a recent delivery, say like in the last couple of weeks, that did NOT have the latest firmware??
Advertisement Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Hi andalus, Take a look here Kinda Wundrin'. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sakthorp Posted March 31, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 31, 2010 Someone can correct me if I'm incorrect, but there are no MECHANICAL differences between old and new 'stock'. You were likely sold a camera that had been manufactured prior to the firmware revision. No biggie.... I just got my M9 two days ago. AlanJW Posted March 31, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 31, 2010 Your camera may have been in the distribution system before the firmware was updated and probably was manufactured before the firmware update was released. I don't quite understand what you mean by "well before" (how long is a string?) but since M9s are selling as fast as Leica can make them, it is not likely it was months before. perhaps you could call Leica and provide the s/n and maybe they will tell you your camera's birthday. If you have a Noctilux you could have an annual celebration by candlelight.
andalus Posted March 31, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted March 31, 2010 thanks for info. Maybe I will call Leica... At any rate, the camera is an absolute pleasure so far. But only snapped the shutter 25 times...Looking forward to the next 25,
michali Posted March 31, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 31, 2010 I picked up my 2nd M9 last week (23rd March) and it still had the previous firmware installed. My dealer in France received it from Leica 2 days prior. I don't think you should be too concerned about this, update and enjoy the camera!
diogenis Posted March 31, 2010 Share #6 Posted March 31, 2010 Andalous, stop worrying so much and enjoy your photos with simplicity and style and precision. Differences with dSLRs are just too many, the procedure needed to the shot is very different, but the rewards for a purely personal and intellectual outcome are rewarding

andalus Posted March 31, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted March 31, 2010 I got the latest, on Leica website, 1.116 or 1.16 or something like that.
Racefan Posted March 31, 2010 Share #10 Posted March 31, 2010 M9 delivered March 25th did not have the latest firmware. Easily updated. Same here. Mine was forwarded to me by my dealer on the same day he received it(March 20). It did not have the latest firmware, but after a couple of days to confirm that the camera was good out of the box, I updated the firmware and haven't looked back. There's been no speculation about any hardware changes being made recently that I'm aware of, so should be no concern about whether it was loaded with latest FW at the factory. dempski Posted April 1, 2010 Share #11 Posted April 1, 2010 Same story here--delivery last week with the old version of software. Instead of running out to take photos, I spent a bit of time finding an old SD card that it would recognize to update the code. Thanks for asking the question. I wondered, too.
