andalus Posted March 29, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 29, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) M9 arriving in hours. First digital camera! I have downloaded Lightroom Beta. Trying to get the gist of it. I have CS4 and used it on scanned images. OK What is a "camera profile". How is it used? Where is it found? How is it "turned on" in LR? Is it there? Is there an M9 profile? Please someone explain this to me. Much thanks.

One more thing. Be patient it will NOT be easy at first. The M9 is a camera that requires YOU to take the picture unlike a digital SLR where you just shoot away and everything is taken care of. It is like comparing a race car and a Mercedes S-Class. Both are nice but for different people. In the end pictures from an M are much more rewarding. You will see. I'd really recommend downloading the full version of Lightroom rather than depending on Beta - if you're doing real work you need to work with finished software Profile is found in the CALBIRATION section in the DEVELOP module. When you load a Leica DNG into lightroom it identifies the image source and selects an appropriate profile - in this case the Adobe Standard IS the M9 profile. There are other profiles that have been posted to the internet - but the Adobe Standard is pretty good. NB if you do work with Lightroom you need to download version 2.6.1 - Version 2.6 has a problem with Leica DNGs. []Adobe - Lightroom : For Windows : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.6.1 - English, French, German Enjoy.
andalus Posted March 29, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted March 29, 2010 That's cool. That LR "recognizes" the camera from which pic taken. BTW, I have used film M's since 1968. So I should be able to learn the M9 in reasonable time. Just sold my MP. Had to given finances.

archi4 Posted March 29, 2010 Share #6 Posted March 29, 2010 I have been using the LR3 beta since it came out and now am using the beta2 version. I have the latest LR 2.6 but much prefer the beta because of a better RAW developer and a much better noise reduction which has improved some iso 2500 images much better than LR2 or Capture One Pro could. I have had absolutely no problems or issues using the beta. maurice
