wda Posted March 29, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 29, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just received my 'bonus' leather ever-ready case. Well made to take X1 with fitted handgrip and attached leather case for stowed viewfinder. As I shall be using mine with both accessories fitted, I am experimenting with the ERC base only fitted to the camera. Apart from the protruding attachment screw, (designed to secure the whole leather case, not just the base), the first benefit I noticed was a reduction in tendency to adjust the aperture dial inadvertently, a trait observed by several users. The close fitting case leaves just a small thickness of insulated leather which provides an excellent grip for the right thumb, which would otherwise rest on the adjustment dial and aperture dial. A quick picture shows a top view of camera and case base fitted. The case is a snug fit and looks good, apart from partial camera body protection. While my 'plus point' is not sufficient recommendation for users to buy the accessory, it is certainly worth considering.
Advertisement Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Hi wda, Take a look here Leica X1 handling with ERC. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
eduardoho Posted March 29, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 29, 2010 Good observations....This is very source of my peeve. If the dials were designed to be used with the ERC in mind then why it was not made within the scope of the delivery? And truly safe us from all these aggravations. The leather case (Leica Product 18707) is an absurdly ill fitting which got me so irritated that I sent it right back for refund. I opted for the system case instead, which is a much better, but it is rather small though. I don't know if this is an endemic problem, or with my luck I got a crappy "gray market" stock, nevertheless it came elaborately packed in a pristine Leica silvery/black box with a Leica inscribed storage pouch very much more elegant than an expensive Coach handbag and all this for nothing...
