Ecar Posted March 26, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been intrigued by this finder for a while and thought it may have been handy in a few occasions when using wides and switching between both lenses and finders is a pain. Any feedback (ease of use, build quality, brightness, distorsion) would be much appreciated.
Advertisement Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Hi Ecar, Take a look here Anyone using the CV 15-35 zoom finder with the M9?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
menos I M6 Posted March 26, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 26, 2010 I thought about it, as I was looking for a different focal length finder, to use on differnet bodies. When I saw, at which prices these CV finders are dealt, I realised, that the jump to the Leica Universal Wide Angle Finder was not really big. I got a good deal for just 150,- EUR more than the CV finder for a Leica Frankenfinder and this thing is just sweet. You see the world exactly as precise, clear and bright as with your Leica viewfinder, just wider and with a great little bubble level added. It has great working parallax setting too and just works. It is much lighter, much more practical and much less ugly, as people say about it (of whom some even never really might have used one). Try one and think deep and hard - it might be worth it. Just be careful, wanting to buy it for a non Leica M body - the parallax is designed for the Leica M hot shoe - lens axis offset. Any other offset introduces uncorrectable parallax failure (think EPSON R-D1 body for example). PS: great photography on your website!
Marty Posted March 26, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 26, 2010 There is some feedback [thread=108840]here[/thread].
Ecar Posted March 26, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted March 26, 2010 Thank you Dirk - indeed, it makes the Frankenfinder look great. Yet I would not be using it very frequently, so price is something to be taken into account. I'll shop around for good deals on the Frankenfinder anyway. And, btw, you have some great pictures too. Marty: thanks for the link - for some reason, I didn't find it when I did a forum search.
k-hawinkler Posted March 26, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 26, 2010 Ecar, My Frankenfinder came as part of a deal for a WATE and covers 16 - 28 mm. I love both. I use this finder for all my WA lenses. I agree with menos' assessment above. Good luck with your decision. K-H.

Marty: thanks for the link - for some reason, I didn't find it when I did a forum search. I have shot a set of the M with the Frankenfinder today and uploaded a quick gallery (too quick actually, as I didn't clean up the compressed JPGs - have to redo that one later :-( ). You can see some proportions in the shots here. sample front: sample left: sample right: sample top:
Ecar Posted March 27, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted March 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you Dirk! Will probably go for the Frankenfinder if I can find one at a reasonable price.
