brt3 Posted March 26, 2010 Author Share #21 Posted March 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Regarding the OVF, I have to say I really like it. Bright, clear, and accurate. When I shot the snaps the light was strong; as a result I found it difficult to use the LCD screen on the camera, even with the brightness set to "stun". I am still learning the AF. Occasionally it can be a bit balky, but it seems to work fairly well most of the time. The manual focus mode, IMHO, leaves a lot to be desired. However, I'm not sure how this could be implemented any differently, given the limitations of having to overlay this on the LCD display. I DO wish they would allow you to select a variable rate on the focusing wheel. As with a computer mouse, it is quite annoying if you have one tracking speed. I want the X1 to recognize how quickly I'm moving the wheel and change focus quickly, then follow my lead and slow down when I get close. I'll look at this more carefully, but at first glance there seems to be little proportionality to this control. That is, moving the focus wheel more quickly does not seem to change the focusing speed of the lens (at least not appreciably). I'm also a fan of the grip, though I dislike how it impacts access to the battery and SD card. Though my hands are on the large size and it does seem to help with handling, the X1 is small enough that I can "palm" it quite easily. I'm still going back and forth, but will likely keep the grip except for the times when size may be an issue. Not that size matters, of course...
