LR M9 aperture query

Why is it that LR frequently tells me, on my hovering over a photo in the library with my mouse, that it was taken at an intermediate aperture for example f 5.7 or f 2.3 when the Leica is aperture priority and the lens is always set to a click stop aperture setting? All my Leica lenses are coded.

Can someone please explain?

Because the M9 can only estimate the aperture. There is no way that the camera can know for certain what aperture is being used as there is no link between the lens and the body to pass that information on. You have to remember that the M mount was designed in the early 1950s, when passing aperture information to a camera body was completely irrelevant.

The code only tells the body which lens is attached.
