LR sharpening for X1 and M9

I am in the process of converting from Canon 1dsm3 and DXO raw converter to X1 and M9.Whilst not wanting to spend hours converting RAW images in LR, I do want good results.I wil probably use LR as it comes with the cameras.

I would like to ask for suggestions for sharpening settings for both cameras (one with AA filter and one with CMOS not CCD). I do not want to adjust sharpness settings for each photograph unless really necessary. My shots are nearly all buildings and street shots -no portraits or people shots).

Thanks for any thoughts and suggestions.

In lightroom on a Mac, I begin by holding down the alt key and using the masking slider to determine the areas or edges to which I want to apply sharpening and what should not be strongly affected. I then apply the sharpening, radius and detail sliders - all at 100%.

I am sorry that I cannot give any standard settings as they vary with the output (inkjet printer or other) and when printing to my Epson 3800 with many factors including size and type of paper.

regards and sorry I cannot be as helpful as I would wish

There is a dedicated book now available on sharpening technique for Raw files in Lightroom and Photoshop (search Real World Image Sharpening) which goes into great detail on this.

They use Canon cameras for their examples.

In general the Leica files need less sharpening owing to the lack of low pass filtering and the superior lenses.

You may want to treat landscapes or architecture differently to portraits for example. Noise reduction is also intertwined with the sharpening adjustments.

I use Lightroom for capture sharpening which EVERY digital image really should have, Then you can apply any other output sharpening later dependant on what the files are used for (sharpening for screen is different than for various printing processes)
