Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 VM

Has anyone tried this lens on the 9? Am having focusing problems with my 35 cron and am waiting for the new lux 35 to come out. Was wondering if this could be a good stop gap lens. I have tried the CV 1.2 but it is just to bug for my taste

I tried three different copies. They all suffered from terrible focus-shift when stopped down. I also found it unreasonably soft on 1.4. But there have been other reports on this forum where users see no problem with their copy.

I returned min and got me a used 35 Summilux pre-asph. Indeed very "soft" (or leica glowing) on 1.4 but no issues with focus shift.

Try one in a camera-store before making a purchase decision.

My experience with the MC version has been great! Spot on and sharp enough @1.4 and I haven't really noticed much focus shift stopping down. There is probably sample variation(I had a poorly focusing 50mm 1.5), but the 35 Nokton is one of my favorite lenses and an absolute bargain.

my 2 cents. :)

P.S. here's steve huff's review

I bought the Voigtlander 1.4M (multicoated) lens whilst I waited for the new Leica 35mm 1.4. Are we talking about the same lens as the other posters as I find mine sharp, contrasty and a little gem on the M9.

I usually use mine wide open so perhaps I have missed a focus shift problem. I am based close to London and you are more than welcome to try mine.

I think that there are good and bad batches made of this lens. I strongly recommend to try before buying to ensure that you get a good copy.

If you search for on ex. Flickr you will find many fine examples of this lens being sharp on the M9. But not all copies are. As i stated in my post above i tried 3 different copies.

The reason I asked about its being the correct version as I had in the back of my mind there were different versions on the B&H site, but I remember now that it was the multicoating that was the difference.

My CV 35 1.4 SC is excellent. Sharp wide open and does not suffer from focus shift. I mostly shoot on film but have had some extensive sessions with it on the M9. Don't let a couple of bad experiences ruin your perception of this fantastic lens!

If you care to browse through my RFF gallery you'll see the majority of my shots are with this lens: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=3291
