Just back from it. If you have not yet been, do go. I love Penns's work and it is not often you get the chance to seee so many of his great photos together in one place - even in print let alone seeing the original prints. Amazing seeing some of the prints from 1947 lookings as fresh and crisp as anything.

I went around much of the exhibition with a huge smile on my face, just because his work is so exceptional, so simple yet so revealing. A great inspitarion.

Oh, and I also left thinking I don't need to buy a roll of colour film again (although I will)

I live in Portugal but I'm really tempted to go there and see the exhibition.

Maybe in May. I have flights for 30€ so I can ask to one friend who lives in London to stay there a couple of days and I'll go to the exhibition.

How much would I have to pay in the National Portrait Gallery?

I saw it in Los Angeles at the Getty Museum. I went there to view Rembrandt and His Pupils: Telling the Difference as well as Penn exhibition. All I can say is that Penns work is stunning and as the OP said crisp as the day each image was printed. Must see for everyone.
