Leica and electronic: wishes

I think LEICA will have to rethink its electronic and software: a war reporter for instance cannot afford electronic or software problems, and an M8 should be a rock solid camera. This is why we pay so much money for a LEICA. This means the body and mechanical parts should be built with excellency, something LEICA is familiar with, but also the electronic: humidity, heat, static electricity are things electronic is affected by. If you take a computer, like inside our beloved digital cameras, more troubles can appear: a software must be well written. Imagine a LEICA with Windows XP inside: daily crashes, viruses, etc...

My suggestions are first of all to allow a reset (a tiny button inside the battery compartment) as step number 1 in case of problem, to reset all values to 0. Then a capability to upgrade/update the software/firmware through the USB port, as step number 2. This USB port should also allow to diagnose problems via a publicly available software (Windows AND Mac) and LEICA technicians to log inside the camera via internet and be able to perform ANY corrections to fix problems: this would save a lot of money to LEICA and a lot of frustration to us. Finally, in case there is nothing to do, some hard-coded default settings, with standard manual speeds should be available.

The purpose is not only to get a beautiful camera with superlative lenses, but also a professional camera, i mean, a tool that can be easily fixed on site and NOT need to be returned to Germany each time it gets a cold....

Ah! something else! at this price, ALL LEICA should be carefully tested BEFORE being sent to the resellers...
