Nature's Masterpiece

This is a Crown Conch (and an exceptional one to boot). The Queen Conch is the run of the mill. Then there are a few other types. We drove through a battle zone of poverty to a small fishing-operation to buy some seafood from the in-coming boats. I made a deal with one of the fisherman for this beauty. I have loved exotic shells since I was a little boy. I have been pouring rum into the shell and spinning it around to get rid of the foul smell.

It's hard to tell how big this is since there is nothing nearby to compare. Regardless, it looks impressive. Maybe you should try soaking it in plain alcohol to neutralize the smell (if the size permits, of course).

Thanks to all.

Ece.......10" long and agout 6" wide.

I let it soak in clorox, now that I am home, much better.

When I think about it I shouldn't have bought it ........ I hope it was dead when the guy found it.

Once I was scolded for picking up a Costa-Rican family who were hitch-hiking.......Because it would take money away from the little struggling bus owner who provided service to many families......you can't win.
