alexc Posted March 3, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Picked up x1 today and played with it for one hour. My initial impressions are mostly in sync with what I have read about this camera so far. Very well built, battery cover could be better. Yes, it is not the fastest camera, but in IMHO it is very reasonable. Slowness of the shutter lug is bothering me more than AF. Street shooters definitely have to try the camera first. For my purposes it is totally fine. MF is not the greatest implementation (covered by many already). Quality of display is reasonable, dials look fine for now. Crystal display would be nice of course. Small things I did not like: no option for DNG only, very strange. No string for the cap. I will have to opt for generic ones, which I don't like. (I always lose caps). One small thing: IMAGE QUALITY IS AMAZING, BOTH JPEGS AND RAW, VERY LITTLE NOISE, GREAT WB. This is the best P&S( though I am not sure if this is the right category for this it) camera I've used so far. 100% SATISFIED. What I would like to have to make it perfect for me (dream): aperture control on the lens ISO control on top faster lens, for even better bloor

Ozkar Posted March 3, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 3, 2010 Is the long shutter lag still evident once you have locked focus? Picked up x1 today and played with it for one hour. msadat Posted March 3, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 3, 2010 one reason for dng+jpg is the processor can not process or display dng files. it feels like pansonic l1. larbel Posted March 3, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 3, 2010 one reason for dng+jpg is the processor can not process or display dng files. it feels like pansonic l1. Hmm... Interesting point, but are you sure it's the processor?? If that's the case, there won't be any firmware fix and we have to live with that?? I always thought it's because of the IS, and since it only worked with jpg?
msadat Posted March 3, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 3, 2010 it could be a firmware, but that should have been there from day one. either way it is what it is. i got one, and it does not bother me that much Hmm... alexc Posted March 3, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted March 3, 2010 Is the long shutter lag still evident once you have locked focus? When you have locked focus it is better. What also helps is to disable image review. Now after using this camera more I feel much better about shutter lug.
ivsphoto Posted March 3, 2010 Share #7 Posted March 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I second Alex comment about disabling image review. I found it slows down significantly. After using a camera for awhile one will find a way to get the best out of it and will enjoy the result. Regards, Igor
grober Posted March 3, 2010 Share #8 Posted March 3, 2010 I'll have my first hour with my first X1 tomorrow when UPS pitches the box up on my front doorstep AND after I charge its battery. The many months comments about the camera's alleged "slowness" is understood but surely not the end of the world: sometimes it's good to slow down and contemplate the scene before releasing the shutter. Anyone hear of Ansel Adams? A new chapter in my 40+ year Leica journey begins tomorrow. -g
