hrahman9 Posted March 2, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know better than to have bid on this and won it, because I have much cheaper, generic hood that I bought at PhotoVillage in NYC for $30, and which works just fine. I just sent over the payment via PayPal, and the hood is already on its way to me, but I am really killing myself for paying this much for a hood. Please feel free to make me feel really really guilty: Boxed Leitz 12585 Lens Hood Leica 50mm Summicron - eBay (item 330407776058 end time Mar-01-10 17:46:32 PST)

Philippe D. Posted March 2, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 2, 2010 Please feel free to make me feel really really guiltyNo, no.The box itself is, at least, $60 worth.
ismon Posted March 2, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 2, 2010 Save the box! Use and enjoy the 12585 for the next thirty years. Then sell it for twice its cost. That's the Leica way. The generic hood was a waste of money (cost $30 today, worth $3 tomorrow).
thompsonkirk Posted March 2, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 2, 2010 What a bargain! The hoods go for $90 or so, but just think what a Japanese collector will pay for that rare box! Kirk
budrichard Posted March 2, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 2, 2010 20 years ago that hood and original box would have cost you $30 so at today's prices, its not a problem. I have a couple, they are nice hoods and fit a number of lenses.-Dick
plasticman Posted March 3, 2010 Share #6 Posted March 3, 2010 I have greater regrets selling equipment too cheaply, than buying it expensively.
hrahman9 Posted March 4, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted March 4, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you all for the affirmation. I simply love this forum of like minded individuals who I can go to when I start feeling Leica buyer's remorse! I should get my hood tomorrow or Friday, and I will safely put away the box for a future sale to some Japanese collector.
scsambrook Posted March 5, 2010 Share #8 Posted March 5, 2010 ....The generic hood was a waste of money (cost $30 today, worth $3 tomorrow). Can't quite follow why it's "a waste of money", Ismon - if it's a copy of the 12585 then surely it most do the same 'sunshading job' and deliver the same functional benefit - and at a fraction of the OP's purchase price of over $100 for his boxed 12585. But then, common sense and buying Leica accessories don't always go hand in hand, as I can testify from long experience!
