sanyasi Posted March 1, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 1, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was buying a couple of items at B & H today and checked on M9 battery availability. They list the battery as M8, but told me that this is the same battery that works in the M9. I was able to order the battery. For the last several weeks, I have been unable to obtain a spare battery from any source, including B & H. This may be a sign that batteries are starting to flow through the system. Advertisement Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Hi sanyasi, Take a look here M9 Battery Availability. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hoppyman Posted March 2, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 2, 2010 Jack, yes the battery is the same unit for both cameras. As with lenses, I think that the popularity of the M9 has resulted in greatly increased demand, hence the short supply.
gwelland Posted March 2, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 2, 2010 if you need a battery then I know that Glazers in Seattle had them in stock last week (I bought two after looking high & low elsewhere too) and show them still available on line. They've always been extremely accommodating and were the one source I had a while back for a new 50 'lux, although I ended up buying their Noctilux instead!! It's a shame that I live at the other end of the state and also have a great dealer in Portland (no sales tax ) otherwise Glazer's would see a lot more of my business. wparsonsgisnet Posted March 2, 2010 Share #7 Posted March 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) When the posts about battery shortage appeared, I ordered a couple of batteries thru my dealer. He let me know today that he has them in his hands, so I guess the shortage is over.
markpsf Posted March 2, 2010 Share #8 Posted March 2, 2010 It works fine and I've had great experience with their batteries for years. Is there any problem with using high quality third party batteries? Mark
sanyasi Posted March 2, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted March 2, 2010 I typically will look for cheaper knockoffs on some less than essential equipment choices. I went with the Benro Travel Angel rather than the more expensive product that some recommended. Maybe there is a place for a tripod that is $800 rather than $400, but my needs don't require the incremental difference. On batteries, I have tended to go with the manufacturer-supplied brand even though you can get cheaper knock offs. I've read too many stories about exploding or leaking batteries and the overall cost of the battery isn't that much despite being overpriced to begin with. I'd stick with Leica unless you know the manufacturer of the knockoff.

Jim The issue of price, availability etc is all rather moot now that they seem to be readily available again. If all the other dealers have no stock at $129 and one does but at a higher price, and you need a battery, what are you going to do? Hindsight and second guessing is a wonderful thing ... You have to buy the battery, but you get to throw a metaphorical rock thru the display window. That is, next time you WANT to spend money, you do it elsewhere.
