Which IR filter for CV 15/4.5?

Assuming this is the current M mount lens (as opposed to the original screw mount with or without an adapter), the filter size is 52mm. B&W 486 or Marumi UV-IR cut filters will work properly. The lens works best when coded as a Tri-Elmar and 16mm is selected from the menu (or at turn-on.)

The B&W filters are available in a variety of places in the US; do a search to find a supplier for Italy.

Hi Filippo,

I have bought a CV 15/4.5 with leica M mount to use with my M8.

Which is the correct filter to use to block IR?

I got this one too, not a long time ago and have made some test shootings with M8.

I found out that the IR/UV filter give some cyan drift on the corners. As well as coded as Tri-Elmar 16 or 18.

So I have a E52 UV (no IR) filter on it and have coded as Elmarit 21mm #11134

(000001) (see Leica M Lens Codes)

I think there are the best results right now with this.

Cheers.

My experience tells that it depends on the brand of the filter. As jlp says, if you get a B+W UV/IR filter, code the lens as a Tri-Elmar, and choose 16mm, you have no cyan drifts. Other brands I tried gave bad results.

Also if you follow Philippe D.'s advice you'll get good results, but the black-magenta shift won't be corrected.

There's a long thread with many pictures on this forum discussing the subject, I think you can easily find it.

Buone foto!

I've coded my new version as a WATE but don't use a filter as I shoot B&W with this lens. However I know that Robert White sell a filter for this lens - so check out their website.

Actually just by the by - I've had great service from them and fast delivery times.

Agree totally. I too have mine coded as the Elmarit 21mm and love the results.......

I was used to code mine as Elmarit 21 but had huge problems while shooting in the open with strong sunlight. Got a lot of cyan drift (yes with the UV/IR filter).

I then coded it as a Wate and in the same condition, selecting Wate 16, anything was ok.

That's maybe right.

I did use an Heliopan ES 52 filter.

Have to try the B+W 486 MRC to be certain.

But till now, I'm happy without IR filter on this Voigtländer.

My experiences as well, tried coding as variations of WATE sizes with 486 filter. Lot of overcorrection. Best images are now with no filter, and no coding. But of course you do need the filter with black synthetics.

The M mount version which accepts 52mm filters needs great care as the filter virtually touches the front element, and the whole system becomes a flare magnet.
