All hail the M8?

So, for $5,000 you got the first digital rangefinder, which after two years might now be worth less than half that. Meantime, your images were made through Leica glass. You also (re-) mastered the Leica rangefinder system, you learned more about lenses, you were immersed in a new and changing world of processing. It cost $4 a day, the price of a latte, with tip (resort town), or $120 a month, hardly a posh dinner out with wine and a friend. Now you are perched on the edge of the M9, understanding all of the previous and knowing automatically which way to push the focus ring when a subject advances, among other protocols.

All hail the M8?

Why not?

The M9 is a fine camera and so too is the S2. The M8.2 I have suits my needs. I love it. I've also made a promise to myself to not spend any money on photographic equipment for the next 2 years. By that time I'll pick up a used M9.2.

Everyone loves the camera they have chosen and there really are no bad cameras anymore. I just wanted a camera with no AA filter that could use Leica lenses.

That's a brave thing to resolve, I wish I could be that strong willed. :D

I understand exactly what you are saying though, you have all you need to make great photographs so why spend more when you really don't need to.

I waited two years and bought an M8 demo for a little over half of original cost at release. I'm perfectly happy with that M8, it's ideal for what I do.

Maybe in another two years I'll take a look around and see if it's time to re-evaluate anything, see if there are any relative bargains to be had. But I'm long past needing to have the newest toys immediately, just because they're new.
