ho_co Posted February 27, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica's press release on the change is matter-of-fact. (see, for example, Leica Camera AG: Franz Jung legt seine Ämter als Mitglied und Vorsitzender des Aufsichtsrats nieder @ GOYAX - 25.02.10 18:14.) Frankfurter Rundschau (Leica: Franz Jung springt ab | Frankfurter Rundschau - Hessen) adds a bit of local point-of-view, but their illustrative photo is a bit strange, to say the least. Nice camera, though. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Advertisement Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Hi ho_co, Take a look here Leica's board chief Jung resigns. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted February 27, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 27, 2010 You have to laugh don't you? First at the continuing Merry-Go-Round that is Leica top management. They barely seem to be able to hire anyone before there's a letter of resignation "for personal reasons". Maybe it's Solms they don't like. It's a bit of a sleepy town, dead on the Saturday afternoon I last visited, but I would have thought an OK place to work. Then, you have to wonder about the picture posted in the Frankfurter Rundschau. Their picture editor clearly doesn't have a clue. Obsolete camera and a bit missing. Perhaps the picture caption should have been: "Prospective Leica Executive searches in vain for a focussed view on the company's future"
mby Posted February 27, 2010 Share #3 Posted February 27, 2010 Just to clarify: Mr Jung was chairman of the supervisory board, which - in Germany, different from the US - is in charge of appointing the company's management board members plus their supervision etc., so he's been neither top management nor executive Best regards, Michael
adan Posted February 28, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 28, 2010 Franz Jung was a banker who was named (by court order, no less, at company request) to succeed a different outside board member, Wolf Schumacher, last Sept. From that PR: "Upon proposal of the Board of Management, Franz Jung, Munich, is to be appointed new member of the Supervisory Board. He looks back on a career of many years, holding leading positions at Commerzbank, at first in Frankfurt and most recently as general manager of Commerzbank Bayern in Munich. Mr. Jung’s professional focus was on corporate banking." Roughly equivalent to Stephen Butler, Kimberly Casiano or Anthony Earley (I know - "Who?!") resigning from the board of Ford Motor Co. Board of Directors - Ford A non-event.
ho_co Posted February 28, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted February 28, 2010 Michael-- Thanks for the clarification. It's never clear to me what any of the German boards do. Andy-- Thanks also. "Who?" is right. Mark-- Thanks for the good caption for the strange picture. And what's that numbered tape around the R9 user's head? Leica stock quotes? Suggested Lotto winners? microview Posted February 28, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 28, 2010 Suggested Lotto winners? Who might then afford the 35 Summilux replacement?

pop Posted February 28, 2010 Share #8 Posted February 28, 2010 One hell of an aperture but a bit lacking in crispness. However, ought to be quite resistant to flare.

menos I M6 Posted March 1, 2010 Share #10 Posted March 1, 2010 It is a female Leica employee, testing the R9 viewfinder display during production/ service. The camera is tagged during production/ service. We Leica users tend to be quite a bunch of self enjoying jokers - ain't we ;-) When exactly did it start, that every unimportant move of production companies/ celebrities have been scrutinized and made big lettered "news" over the internet, finding remotely an audience interested in the matter? ho_co Posted March 1, 2010 Author Share #11 Posted March 1, 2010 At least she doesn't have her finger in there feeling for the rangefinder tracking roller...
rob_x2004 Posted March 2, 2010 Share #12 Posted March 2, 2010 Howard I would frame the image. It must be about the only time Solms has ever checked anything they intend to send out. "Look guys...it does happen...once" Hopefully they check the other side for missing caps.
ho_co Posted March 2, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted March 2, 2010 Nasty, nasty! I view the image differently. It takes experience and coolness under fire to pick up a lensless camera to fire back at a paparazzo. I see the worker as saying, "Cut out this silliness and let me get back to work! You take off your lens, and I'll show you where to put it."
rob_x2004 Posted March 2, 2010 Share #14 Posted March 2, 2010 Does give you a good view of how un ergonic the r9 design is. You need to have eyes set into the sides of your head to see round the side of the bugger. Maybe it was made for neanderthals. Gee I love winding on into my forehead too. But yay its stylish. pop Posted March 2, 2010 Share #15 Posted March 2, 2010 You need to have eyes set into the sides of your head to see round the side of the bugger. It's a feature. It helps you to avoid squinting while looking through the finder.
SJP Posted March 2, 2010 Share #16 Posted March 2, 2010 Note from Frankfurter Rundschau (Leica: Franz Jung springt ab | Frankfurter Rundschau - Hessen) Für das laufende Geschäftsjahr 2009/2010 erwarte das Unternehmen ein mindestens ausgeglichenes Ergebnis vor Zinsen und Steuern, wie Leica vor knapp zwei Wochen mitgeteilt hatte. Translate (Google of course:D) For the current 2009/2010 financial year the company expects at least break-even earnings before interest and taxes, as Leica had told about two weeks ago. Guest BigSplash Posted March 2, 2010 Share #17 Posted March 2, 2010 Good to hear that Leica expects to break even still as mentioned two weeks ago, although presumably that does not cover the extra cash capital injection made by Dr Kaufmann last year. Presumably that means that they are on track to ship large M9 (and lenses) quantities this month as the Leica financial year finishes end of March. Also no one apparently has given a reason for the departure of the chairman of the supervisory board (Jung) so near to the financial year end. I find that surprising. 'Ve can copy ze canon shape too.' You've obviously never held one. It's one of the most ergonomic cameras I've ever held or used - much more so than an M and indeed the D700 I use now, which frankly is a complete nightmare. It was designed by someone who knows how human hands work and where to place the controls to allow them to be used easily. The R8 and R9 were great cameras.
