M8China Posted February 26, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a TriElmar 16-18-21mm F4 ASPH bought last year. To mount a UV/IR filter I recently bought a Leica E67 Filter Holder (Leica number 14473). Apart from the holder in the box there is a black plastic like circular disc with a large hole in the center, with wordings "This side towards lens" and " Only for use with LEICA M8 + UV/IR filter" along the periphery. Any one can enlighten me as to the use of the disc and how to mount it to the holder will be much appreciated. P.S. I have gone cheap and bought a B+W #486 UV/IR filter for the WATE instead of Leica one.

dpattinson Posted February 26, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 26, 2010 I believe it's to cover the lettering on the front of the lens to avoid reflections in the filter, although I don't have the lens so I'm not entirely sure.
ho_co Posted February 26, 2010 Share #3 Posted February 26, 2010 It just drops into the filterholder before you install the filter. Purpose is to keep any avoidable reflections from stray light out of the lens, as David said. As labeled, it is for use with the M8's UV/IR-Cut filter since, as a mirror, that filter can reflect lens data back into the image.
