Clandrel Posted February 25, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 25, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Very happy, but still firmware 1.0. Great pictures! Great lense, but build quality is not even close to M8. But I guess you get what you pay for... The dials are too loose! And it's a bit plastic. But I am used to M8, so they shouldn't be compared. Picturewise: I actually feels it is better than M8 in many respects. Now; VF, extra battery and systemcase on it's way in the mail:) C
Advertisement Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Hi Clandrel, Take a look here Got mine today.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
RSM Posted February 25, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 25, 2010 Got mine Yesterday. I am guessing I must be one of the first in Australia. I have never owned a Leica before so cannot compare with M8's and the like but I am happy with the quality. Mine also has Firmware 1.0. One thing I am having trouble with is reviewing images on the LCD. The manual says to review images press the play button and to exit review press play again. This latter function does not work at all. The only way to exit the review is to shut the camera off and reboot. I am using a Voigtlander EVF with the screen off. Would this be the problem....if so it is pretty dumb! Otherwise very happy:confused:
elansprint72 Posted February 25, 2010 Share #3 Posted February 25, 2010 Look forward to seeing all your X1 snaps in the photo forum, you folks have done a lot of talking, you have argued over which case is best; let's see what you can do.
Clandrel Posted February 25, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted February 25, 2010 Also, it's stupid that you have to take extract the lense, if you just wanna enter menus or browsing pictures...

siangs Posted February 26, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 26, 2010 Hi Guys, it's been 2 days since i got my Leica X1, I'm among few lucky people in Indonesia who received the first batch of the X1. well, i agree with most of you that the built quality can not compare with the M8, but after all X1 is mean to be point and shoot, it should be light and easy to carry. For me X1 is very well built, light, very nice looking camera , and yet it is a Leica !!! Picture quality is very good no doubt about that. after all this wait, i'm pretty satisfied with X1. Enjoy Your X1 Cheers
larbel Posted February 26, 2010 Share #7 Posted February 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) The dials are not plastic, they're anodized aluminum so it seems. And if you've read the manual... You can enter review mode without removing the lens cap by pressing the play button while turning on the power. I just picked up one as well and it's running firmware 1.0. Initially I too was surprised how light it was, but it does feel well built. Interesting to hear that in many respects the IQ feels better than your M8.

I have a loaner and no manual. Any other tidbits of information that might not be obvious?

Any other tidbits of information that might not be obvious? Hmm... I guess things like press and holding the "delete/focus" button for 1.5 secs to trigger moving the AF points? And then press info to have the AF point return to center? Not much other than that I can think of.

Clandrel Posted February 26, 2010 Author Share #14 Posted February 26, 2010 Well, the M-lenses are the magic. The M8 is a few years old, and things happen in the digital territory. My three year old Apple TOP-OF-THE-LINE Power Mac (cost $3000) is a shit computer, compared to my new Mac Book (cost $1000). Luckily, the M8 actually holds a high standard for being an "old" camera. sungnee Posted February 26, 2010 Share #15 Posted February 26, 2010 About the weight, the CM is also extremely light weight, but it produces incredible pictures. So I think the X1 is just following that path. But...I never got used to the flimsy feel of the CM. It got to the point where my shots suffered. So after anguishing over it for two years I went and bought a used Minilux! Now I use the Minilux and I feel far more secure and comfortable, with its heft. I know it is purely psychological but if my outputs are bad then the effect is real. I plan on getting the X1, I just hope I don't end up with it the same way, because there's no older version of the X1.

Sungee, I am surprised by your assessment of the CM's weight. It may not feel as heavy as a true 'M' - after all, it is a Compact M - but I enjoy its feeling of solidity with the right mass for use any time. I doubt there is much difference in weight between the Minilux and the CM. But it is your perception which is important to you.

The dials are too loose! And it's a bit plastic. Well of course, at 1.500 € it's Leica's version of a cheap p&s, so what do you expect?

Ecaton Posted February 27, 2010 Share #20 Posted February 27, 2010 That's what I am saying positive comment IQ very good and better than M8. This remains to be seen yet. Except from a German X1 user, I have not seen any X1 pictures which made me jump up and down of joy. Maybe if you are talking about in camera jpegs, but who shoots jpegs with he M8. I would even go as far and say the X1 is just another good CMOS sensor performer, but besides its compactness and looks, has nothing exceptional going for it.
