thrice Posted February 28, 2010 Share #21 Posted February 28, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) That's quite a lot of vignetting, the 1.1 Nokton doesn't vignette nearly that much (both wide open). I hope no one objects to the CV lens images being in this thread for comparison, if anyone wants me to get rid of them just say
Advertisement Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Hi thrice, Take a look here M9 & f1 Noctilux vignetting.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ecar Posted February 28, 2010 Share #22 Posted February 28, 2010 The way the Leica 50 1.0 draws is like no other. Not for everyone but I love it. +1. Ditto for the 75 Lux. No, these are not general purpose lenses, but their character is unique. A matter of taste, I guess. I actually often added vignetting to M8 files taken with these lenses;)
markgay Posted February 28, 2010 Share #23 Posted February 28, 2010 If the vignette bothers you it's one of the simplest adjustments to make in pretty much any decent image editor, even Lightroom Funny. I never realised how much demand there is for an 'old style' vignette look. Probably because I'm an amateur. Perhaps those who run studios can comment on demand for 'the look'. Certainly the latest Lightroom 3 beta claims to make it much easier to ADD vignetting. "To apply a dark or light vignette for artistic effect to a photo, use the Post-Crop Vignetting options in the Effects panel." I've always regarded it as something you have to work around. Sometimes it helps the image. Othertimes it gets in the way. Over all, it seems we're fortunate to have the glorious Noctilux vignetting built in ! Julian Thompson Posted February 28, 2010 Share #24 Posted February 28, 2010 Interesting comparison, thrice. For me the first of your two images doesn't compare well to the F1 Nocti - the out of focus rendering is harder and less smooth in the areas that are well lit from that window. The second image is quite a lot more Nocti - like and I think this goes to show how lighting conditions can alter a lens' character. There is still quite a bit of vignetting in that second one, though?
brill64 Posted February 28, 2010 Share #25 Posted February 28, 2010 Interestingly, I used the nocti at 1.0 with the m9. lots of night shots. I didn't notice vignetting at all. VERY similar look to nocti shots with the m7 err..maybe because it was night time?
Guest Posted March 1, 2010 Share #26 Posted March 1, 2010 When you shoot at night the corners will be as dark as the rest of the image, anyway, I presume? Some posts are on par with the gear :D . So are some pics. Not mine 2009-2010 I'm afraid So I'll take my time upgrading from my two M8s, which have already been upgraded to a "silent shutter & co" to the new M9. But I'm having fun and take pictures on an almost regular weekly basis. Cheers!
thrice Posted March 6, 2010 Share #27 Posted March 6, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) The second image is quite a lot more Nocti - like and I think this goes to show how lighting conditions can alter a lens' character. There is still quite a bit of vignetting in that second one, though? The vignetting is even though, the top left hand corner of the second image is the edge of a floor-to-ceiling shelf, and one cannot accurately judge the two bottom corners. In a controlled test they all look like the top right corner, with far less vignetting than the f/1 noctilux.
Julian Thompson Posted March 6, 2010 Share #28 Posted March 6, 2010 Here are a couple of F1 Nocti/M9 shots in very, very different lighting conditions. It's vignetting inside and distorting outside! But I absolutely love the lens. It's my absolute favourite even though technically I know it's not 'perfect'. I know this is a discussion about vignetting rather than personal opinion but I just think the soft rendering of the Nocti sets it apart? Welcome, dear visitor! brill64 Posted March 6, 2010 Share #29 Posted March 6, 2010 i think he mean't that it vignette's an awful lot with the nikon 2.8 too in ff. even i can see from your nikon pics that it does. however i prefer the character of the noctilux f1..
