Someone here knows how many and where are ball bearings in the IIIF and IIIG cameras?

We know that all started with IIIC-K (even here someone says 5 others 10 ball bearings, what is the true?where they are?),then half race camera IIIC with ? ball bearings.

Furthermore plain after war IIIC without them till IIIF Bd that seems again an half race camera (?) till IIIFRd (and IIIG) that seems to be with ball bearings but less in number than IIIC.K.

I would like to find the definite answer.

Thanks to all.

This will all be revealed when Dr Leo and I publish our book about the US Army and the Leica Camera 1945/49 ~ stay tuned!

Guest Ron (Netherlands)

there is some discussion about this issue here:

Which Leica LTM's have ball bearing shutters? - Photo.net Leica and Rangefinders Forum

The post war IIIc retained the during WWII introduced miniature bearings. They are situated in the top spindle of the rotating shutter drum.

The IIIf 'Red Dial' - introduced in 1953 - had an extra set of miniature ball bearings being used on the main shutter drum. The curtain and drum assembly were lightened to achieve a modest increase in the synch speed (it became 1/50 sec in stead of before 1/30 sec).
