How is everyone getting on with Aperture 3?

Not yet upgraded from 2 and I am trialling LR3 Bet which I quite like. I am keen to decide between Aperture 3 and LR3 to manage my catalogue, for importing/culling and RAW processing of my M8 and D2x images. I also use PS CS4 and Silver EFX Pro.

Ian, I'd like to follow your actions on this. I've been using LR2, and have found it slow and cumbersome. Tried numerous suggestions on how to improve performance, but it still drags. Cut my master catalog in to 4 smaller catalogs, no help. It likes to choke on my DLux-4 .RML files. Originally chose LR over Aperture due to quicker Adobe support of new file formats. Now, Apple seems to be catching up with file format support at the OSX system level.

So, I've been thinking about switching to Aperture rather than LR3 upgrade when it comes out. Any wisdom you or the other readers could supply would be appreciated.

I like it quite a bit. Big speed improvement over Aperture 2, subtle improvements to the interface (the keyword text and mouse-over information seems easier to read; ability to have full screen browser, etc.), support for D-Lux 4 raw files. The real problem, as others have alluded to, is lack of 64-bit plugins. I rely heavily on the Nik software suite, and all are unusable unless I launch Aperture in 32-bit mode (thus giving up the speed improvements). Once Nik issues updates, I'll be quite happy.

I am very pleased with v3 except that Apple have changed how versions are named which is giving alot of confusion ( see the Apple Support Forums) and as yet Silver Efex Pro has yet to be made compatible.

The conversion of the library was difficult but I am pleased with some of the new features and functionality. I am still in 32 bit mode and silver Efex works exactly as before. In fact I just checked by converting a picture which I will post if I can see how that is done.
