Advertisement Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Hi Guest stnami, Take a look here leica factory tour. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hoppyman Posted February 23, 2010 Share #22 Posted February 23, 2010 I know how you feel. Last time I was in England, I found out only at the last minute that the Queen couldn't put me on her calendar. Same thing happened to me Howard, even though I once was part of a military Guard of Honour for a Royal visit, clearly I wasn't remembered. But I have attended a dinner with Herr Daniel and had morning tea and chats with Herr Kaufmann from Customer Service. I asked him if it was his dad that owned the company! This week I'm having lunch with the National Product Manager here. There will be beer and M9's.
richam Posted February 23, 2010 Share #23 Posted February 23, 2010 ok ok ok. i don't doubt their hospitality. i was annoyed at the situation. i was very much looking foward touring the factory, and i understand it's not a tourist hotspot so to speak. while i'm in Frankfurt, i will make a trip to Wetzlar, and if the leica showroom is open i will have a look. it's just disappointing, however something may still be able to be worked out. there is plenty of time for a resolution. about 6 months to work it out. I had the privilege of a Solms factory tour in 2004 with a forum group. It was all pre-arranged and I don't remember the day of the week. The tour guide was a retired gentleman named Karl. If he is still conducting the tours, it's worth a trip there. Otherwise, you might be able to get into the factory and look around, but the experience would be worthless. You might get a complementary lens cloth, but it's hardly worth a trip from Frankfurt. There was a showroom with retail priced Leica products, but no bargains to be found. If the dates don't work out for you, I'm sure Leica would accommodate a group if you could set one up. There are so many interesting things to see in Europe that I don't recommend spending precious vacation time chasing a non-event at the Leica factory. If you do end up in Frankfurt, check out Rahn GmbH - FOTO & FINE ART (E). They have an excellent stock of new and used Leica products and can work out the VAT refund paperwork for you. Best wishes for the tour. Have a great time.
