The 60mm focal length is already part of the 2.5x optical zoom formula, but not the digital zoom which is basically an enlargement of the central portion of your frame; hope that clarifies your query.

Unfortunately yes, this is one of the disadvantage of Dlux-4 having a rather short zoom range compare to other competition, unless you want to add an accessory lens in front which then will be another story.

" unless you want to add an accessory lens in front which then will be another story.", you said.

Could we explore the possibility of this "accessory lens? Would it degrading the image significantly? Does Leica make a accessory lens? Is Is there anything else you think is pertinent?

Not from Leica but i think Panasonic do make them and so does a few 3rd party ones. As to whether it will affect the quality, i could not tell you because mine is the basic set up, you might like to search the digital part of this forum to see how other Dlux-4 users like their accessory lens.
