I visited Norway's biggest Leica shop today, and they really are a superb shop, with tons of knowledge. I asked about the X1, and they told me that they had one demo in the shop that they had been trying out, and they weren't happy with the autofocus and the slow processing.

Leica in Solms called them to ask what they thought of the camera and when they told Leica about the problems, they were asked to ship the camera back ASAP, and NOT let any customers try it out.

So, he says they are expecting their first delivery late february, with fixed problems!!!

Spent 5 minutes trying one in my local store in the UK yesterday. I got no impression of slowness. IQ on screen - at high ISOs - looked OK.

The main impressions were: very light, very simple. Perhaps a shade too light - a Leica is supposed to have a bit of heft, isn't it?

Paul, I think weight is relative. Against my M8 (and M9) it is light; but the latter are very different classes of camera. The M8 is a serious system camera and is designed to withstand much lens changing and rangefinding. The X1 is a compact light auto focus camera which you are more likely to take out with you when serious photography is not on the agenda. At social events, even shopping, you don't want the burden of a heavy camera. Personally I think it is just right for that role which is why I bought mine.

While it may appear to be a simple camera, it has depth to its capabilities. For example, just explore the different focus and exposure modes or sound options. While it can be used as a 'P&S' camera, it offers far more for the demanding and experienced photographer. Even in a beginner's hands it can offer growth potential and produce excellent results.

It is not without a few irksome quirks, but it is more than capable of yielding absolutely top quality pictures given a little care and application.
