iwc852 Posted February 17, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 17, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I am seeking for opinion and background knowledge on the Summilux 75. Is there any technical difference or other reason that makes the first version or the second version more desireable (other than weight)? As I am having both versions, I am seeking for reasons to pick one of them for being sold. Any opinion or advise is welcome! Thanks, Christian

Ivar B Posted February 17, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 17, 2010 I prefer the 2nd version with built in lens hood. Optically they are identical. The first version may have a price premium as it is rare and has collector value.
adan Posted February 18, 2010 Share #3 Posted February 18, 2010 Technically, I guess there are three versions - but no optical difference. 1. First year or so of production - separate lens hood. Skinnier barrel. 2. Middle version as built in Canada and for a time in Germany - built-in hood - heavier. 3. Final version built in Germany with redesigned lighter barrel. In the US, there is NO collector's premium for the early version - in fact they usually sell for less since the hood is occasionally not included or missing, and they are "older" and often show it. And they aren't that rare - I run across one every 4-6 months or so. The only thing I've seen, beyond general condition, that affects price in the more recnt designs is whether a specific lens has 6-bit coding or not.
