snaxo Posted February 14, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all My first post here I've just purchased a D-Lux 4 and I'm facing a small (I hope) problem that I wondered if anyone can help with. It seems that Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 will not read the RAW files from D-Lux 4 - despite me upgrading the RAW filter to the latest, 5.6. What's even odder, is that if I follow my normal workflow method, which is to import the RAW files as DNG format into Adobe Lightroom (2.6) - Elements still cannot seem to import the DNG files. It complains that they are 'corrupt or have been imported before'. Importing lightroom converted DNG or RAW files from my Canon EOS40D - no problem at all of course. I assumed this was going to be some 'known issue' but in the searching I've done so far I can't find anyone complaining of the same problem. Also, with Elements using the RAW 5.6 filter - my understanding is that the D-Lux 4's RAW files should be supported. So, all in all, I'm scratching my head a little. thanks very much in advance for any help or suggestions! Damian

ho_co Posted February 14, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 14, 2010 Welcome to the forum, Damian! Are you using a Mac? I'm not sure that the current version of OS X supports the RWL format, but I don't think that should matter to the software you're using. I'm using a Mac with Photoshop and have no problem with the D-Lux 4's RWLs. Suggestion 1: Check that your version of PSE with your current version of ACR will support the RWLs. Suggestion 2: Download the latest version of the free "Adobe DNG Converter" from Adobe and try that. It should produce DNGs you can use. Remember, the D-Lux 4 forced Adobe to redefine the DNG to allow it to carry the lens correction instructions as part of the DNG. In ACR or Adobe DNG Converter, be sure you select compatibility with Version 5.2 (writes full data in de-mosaicked files) or Version 5.4 (writes full data without de-mosaicking). Or later, of course. I'm only guessing, and I hope something I said gives you a hint of what may be wrong. With luck, someone with knowledge of your software will pipe up with a solution. Good luck, and keep us posted! snaxo Posted February 14, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted February 14, 2010 Howard - thanks very much indeed for the warm welcome and for the suggestions - much appreciated. I'm using a PC rather than a Mac. ...But I'm glad to say - I think I have found the problem and hopefully sharing it will save anyone else similar hassle! When I downloaded Camera Raw 5.6, I created a backup folder in the Adobe Elements Filters directory to hold the existing version. As the backup copy was now in in a different directory (subdir of the usual directory) I didn't change the filename. Well, it seems that Elements does not like two camera raw files existing in the same directory tree. As soon as I removed the backup folder containing the old Camera Raw file all was ok. Pretty whacky if you ask me ! Cheers! Damian
