X1 delay actually lucky for Leica

Looks like the delay in delivering to the US market will pay off for Leica. Note the drop in the EU against the Dollar since Nov 09. That's 10% more margin on each unit if my math works out. 1.51-1.36.

 

Not saying it's intentional but it's turning out to be good business.

It will cover the cost of a few fixes for sure.. guess they are happy for the extra cents per unit..

When you think how badly they have been spanked by the dollar in the past 8 years it's really amazing. I remember buying an Elmar M at the factory store in 2001 for about 575usd after exchange rate. Today it would be over $1000 even without Leica driven price increases.

It's not just the States where this camera is not yet available. No sign of it here either, and no-one has a clue. It seems to be available in Europe only so far.

As far as I know in the Netherlands it was available only in two shops. Now the delivering time is approx. 3 weeks.
