kschwarz Posted February 13, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) One of Aperture 3's main new features is support for 64-bit processing under Snow Leopard. Like many other posters, I have seen a definite speed improvement in 64-bit mode (the default). My Nik plugins transferred automatically when installing Aperture 3, but Aperture gives a message that it must restart itself in 32-bit mode to use them (you'll get this message if you select an image, right-click, and select edit in Nik Viveza or SilverEfx, etc). I wanted a work-around, so that I did not have to restart Aperture in 32-bit mode and lose the speed advantages. The solution is to right-click on the image and select "edit in Photoshop". Even though Photoshop is also 32-bit, this is a separate application, and so has no effect on how Aperture is running. Nik supplies Photoshop plug-ins with its Aperture plugins, so if you have a Nik plugin for Aperture, you should also be able to run the Photoshop version as well (requires a separate install). This allows the use of Nik plugins without the need to restart Aperture in 32-bit mode.
