Just wondered if anyone knew of any good exhibitions (art or photography) going on in London this weekend?

also any shops that sell monographs at a reasonable price?

going down this weekend so thought might be worth a look around.

Cheers

Check out Matt Stuart's exhibition (KK Outlet).

Cheers,

Hi,

There is a nice exhibition of Herbert Ponting's amazing photos from Scott's ill-fated 1912/13 Antarctic Expedition at Getty Images, 46, Eastcastle Street, London, W1W 8DX (behind Oxford Street.) Some "iconic" images. It's free to enter. Prints are for sale - if you have deep pockets.

The Photographers' Gallery might be worth looking up online to see what is on there - it is in Ramilles Street near Oxford Circus, so very close to Getty Images Gallery too. They have a good bookshop too.

The National Portrait Gallery (round the corner from Trafalgar Square heading up Charing Cross Road) has the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize show on, but it finishes on 14th. It's free to enter and worth a look.

Hope you have a good visit.

Tim

Points of View is still on at the British Library. Van Gogh is on at the Royal Academy.

And this is one I wanted to get to, but I don't live in London now:

Michael Hoppen Gallery - Current Exhibitions - Fernand Fonssagrives - Nu Sable, 1949

And if you head up Charing Cross Road from Trafalgar Square, just past Leicester Square Station on the right hand side, there's a couple of good second-hand bookshops that might well have out-of-print monographs. Or if you want to pay full price for current publications, Hatchards (opposite the Royal Academy in Piccadilly) is usually good.

Have fun.

David

If you happen to trundle down the King's Road pop into the Proud Gallery, its next to the Library and opposite Heals. There is an exhibition of black and white photography - Paris as well as several rock star photos. Its free and you can check out some of the photo's on their website afore ye decide whether or not to go. Incidentally, the Saatchi gallery is also on the Kings Road and is free too. Good road for taking street photos. Have fun.

If you're out in the East End, there's a couple of things worth seeing.

At the Idea Generation gallery just off Bethnal Green Road, there's an exhibition of Nat Finkelstein's documentation of Andy Warhol's Factory, and the Velvet Underground. It's free.

If you don't mind paying a bit, £7.50 to be exact if I remember correctly, there's a huge exhibition of photography from India and Pakistan on at the Whitechapel Gallery. I had a glance at some of it on my way from the cafe to the exit, but am definitely going back when I have a bit of extra cash...I was completely skint the other day when I was there! It looked really interesting, though.

A vote for the Photographers Gallery. Been going there for 30 years, as a resident and a visitor. I never miss it. In a temporary space right now, but still good (was there last month).

We called in at the Photographers' Gallery in Ramillies Street last week. The lady on the desk there said that this was now their permanent home. (I have to say that I didn't get a lot out of the current exhibition though, but I'm a bit old-fashined in my tastes!)

The Irving Penn exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery is excellent, and well worth a visit (£10 to go in).
