mob81 Posted February 8, 2010 Author Share #2 Posted February 8, 2010 I have a question: Do I leave the IR-cut filter on all the time or just indoors? i shoot color and then convert to B&W if I want to! Here are the first few shots: "Snap shots really" I've used nikon lenses and Zeiss's ZF and I thought they were very sharp!!! Man the little ZM is AMAZING "Is there a sharper lenses!!!!?" (sorry very excited) First time Rangefinder shooter so tips are very welcomed
mob81 Posted February 8, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted February 8, 2010 Nice combo... are you new to leica in general? The reason I ask is because I'm wonder how this lens compares with the 35mm summicron or summaron... Yes I'm new to Leica and Rangefinders in General (only used P&S and DSLR) I bought the M8 to get used to Rangefinder "digital has an immediate results to see how I did" but my Eyes are on the Ziess Ikon or the M7 "Really want a film Rangefinder" I guess I got the M8 at a good price "$2000" mint condition or mint- (because the seller in Saudi and not many people knows Leica "he wants the M9" and he was supportive buy his and encouraging) and the good people in this forum were a major help too. So thanks to you all
SJP Posted February 8, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 8, 2010 I keep the UV/IR filters on all the time, as it also keeps green foliage just that. I would be surprised if you ended up with a M7 or Zeiss Ikon but that is just me I guess, film M's are fun but not my primary choice. Note that they are easier to focus as you have no feedback & so you stop worrying.
Double Negative Posted February 9, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 9, 2010 Congrats! Your love will only grow, rest assured. Might as well leave the UV/IR filter on all the time, except perhaps when they cause flare (little green blobs). Some people like to leave them off when shooting with the intent of converting to B+W also. I generally just leave mine on all the time. As for that 2,8/35 Biogon ZM - it's one of the sharpest in the lineup (the 2,8/25 Biogon ZM is the sharpest) and well known for its contrast. It's a fantastic little lens! joshtpa Posted February 9, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 9, 2010 Congrats. I leave the UV/IR on all the time, never have any issues in or outdoors. The Zeiss lenses are quite amazing. I have the 25 Biogon and it's the sharpest lens I own. Enjoy your beautiful chrome M8!
chris_livsey Posted February 9, 2010 Share #7 Posted February 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Zeiss ZM is very consistent across the range in sharpness, colour rendering and contrast. The 2.8 25mm as Double Negative says is just in front by a nose. They are a bargain at the price. So pleased you have had the "rush". It doesn't fade.
