M6 - ISO film speed dial and metering problem

Hi All,

I recently got a M6TTL and I already love it.

I have a question though: I am testing the meter and I notice that it gives me always the same reading no matter how I set up the ISO speed in the film dial. For example, the meter indicates correct exposure for: 400 ISO, 1/500 and f8. Now I change the ISO to 50 (or 3200 ...), but the LEDs keep indicating the correct exposure, at the same shutter speed and aperture!

Is that normal? The camera is loaded with film, but I doubt that matters.

I feel this might be a problem and I wonder if anyone had experienced it.

Any help will be appreciated!

Thank you,

daniel

It is a problem suggest sunny side f/16 until end of film and when you remove the film wipe the gold plated contacts on the back and body with your micro fibre lens cleaning cloth.

If that does not help it is local leica repair person, As I'd not scrub them myself, I might try cotton but with zippo lighter fluid, first though.

Think the manual says soft cloth.

Do you have access to another M6 back door?If you do,try it on your camera and see if the problem is still there. If it isn't then the problem is with the film speed setting dial on your back door.If the problem persists ,the fault is in the body electronics.

Very true but as the camera may have been disused for a loooong time the likely hood is tarnish on the contacts, I'd complain to vendor but finish the film off, to make sure there was not another problem or other problems... Leicas don't like disuse.

thank you, I really appreciate the infos!

The camera was frequently used before, and I checked and cleaned the contacts and they seem in good shape. Still no response to the ISO dial.

Additionally, when i set the correct exposure (only the central LED was on), if I slightly press the release button again then first one of the LED arrows appears, then after 2 seconds the central LED appears and stays on, and finally the arrow fades away in 3-4 seconds. I don't know if that is normal either.

The batteries are new.

I think I might pay a visit to Essex Camera tomorrow, it's just 15 min from where I live.
