My first Photo Show "score"

I heard that there was a Photo Show in San Jose (~15 min from my home) today and I decided to check it out - with VERY low expectations of finding any good deals on Leica lenses.

As expected, there were 100s of Nikon/Canon lenses - many for prices lower than what we pay for a lens hood :D.

But, amidst the vintage and the Japanese, there were two sellers with Leica stuff.

One of them, OC Camera, had very limited used selection - the guy was apologetic and explained that their store had just been robbed and took about $18K worth of used Leica lenses.

The other seller (based in Las Vegas - and selling only at shows) had a bigger selection.

I ended up getting a 50mm 'cron for $550 (it was the an older version - no built in hood, no focus tab and no "50" written large on the side) but it's black and beautiful. I already put it to good use. I also got a B+W 39mm UV/IR filter for $25.

Later, I went back and could not resist a $250 CV 35mm/2.5. In retrospective, it was not such a good deal because - although the lens is perfect - it did not come with a hood, and I saw the very same lens for $299 new on Amazon. Oh well - win some, lose some.

With the 50 and the 35 - and the 28 'cron, I now have the basic lenses I wanted. I plan to use the 50 and 35 for most street shooting since I ended up cropping a lot with the 28.

The two tables with Leicas were pretty much packed - at least in the early morning. Were any of you guys or ladies at the show? In retrospective, it would have been fun to meet face-to-face.

Oh man, I saw the ad for that on Craigslist, but didn't go. I went to one last month in SoMa in San Francisco and it was a big disappointment. It's good to hear that the San Jose one is better. Congrats on the 50/2--I would like one of those too!

I have a feeling they might be the same show - it seems to travel around. Anyway, the exhibitor that had the most Leica lenses (I'd estimate about 30) says that he does a show in Hayward once a month.

Alberto, I believe it is the same show. The one in SoMa only had six dealers total, though. The only one there who seemed worthwhile was the guy with all the filters. Unfortunately, he didn't have the 43mm UV/IR cut filter I was looking for at the time. Anyhow, he said that the Hayward show is the one that attracts the most dealers, so, perhaps, I'll check that out at some point.

BTW, if you have any tips for finding used Leica stuff in the Bay Area, I would much appreciate them. I recently scored a 40mm Summicron-C at Rayko for $260.
