Having recently (couple of days ago) aquired a new Summicron 50 i find that i am missing the focus tab which is present at my Summicron 35. I really like the tab, it makes it so much faster and convenient to focus.

Is there anyway to get hold of a 35 focus tab and fit it on the 50?

Any ideas on how to mount it? Glue?

Does it sound like a bad idea to have a tab on the 50?

You could try to source a 50 Cron, one generation older than your latest model.

These lack the integrated hood, but have the focus tab.

The optics should be the same.

The older Cron is slightly lighter and smaller too, making it on my wish list for future lenses.

Funny, I just acquired a 50mm Cron two days ago (not arrived yet), but after a long decision process, I went for the previous version, the one with the focus tab. To me, having a focus tab was more important than the built in hood. Optics are exactly the same so maybe you should resell yours and also go for the earlier version (that should also be cheaper) ?

Thanks for the input. I should probarbly have done my homework before my purchase. I really had no idea that the older model was the same optics wise. But it makes perfectly good sense.

Not sure how i proceed from here. The Summicron works like a charm on the camera... Hmmm...

Yanidel, how much do these "older" Crons go at the moment?

I think about getting one, as it is significantly lighter and quite a bit smaller than my 50 Lux.

The Lux is great, but I find myself often, to take a 35 Cron instead, as I am to lazy to lug the Lux around ;-)

Matlep, I would try to find an older one, which could be swapped with the respective money change in your pocket.

I would investigate tough, how this lens fairs with flare and ghosting first, ie, if the lens hood is crucial.

To what I could investigate, they typically go from €500-€700 depending on condition, whether they were made in Germany or Canada and have the hood or not.

I feel the same as you, I bought it to supplement by 60mm Hex that sometimes is a bit too big and intimitading. ;) The Cron weights only around 220grs with 39mm thread vs 420gr and 58mm ...
